Coca-Cola and World VW Beetle Day

Yesterday I was sick and it was The VW Beetle World Day... So it goes today. Beetles are slow but steady... In 1962 VW used a world wide ad at Reader's Digest joining the two shapes known around the world. It is one example of other products using Coca-Cola in their ads. For years VW ads where minimalist with large white sheets.

Ontem eu não estava legal e foi o Dia Mundial do Fusca. Mas como os Fuscas são lentos mas chegam lá, vai hoje. Em 1962 a VW fez uma campanha mundial da Seleções onde dizia as Duas Formas Conhecidas em Todo o Mundo. É apenas um exemplo de outras marcas usando Coca-Cola em seus anúncios. Durante anos as propagandas da VW foram minimalistas com grandes áreas brancas.

Exactly by July 19, 1996 Coca-Cola started a very different advertising campaign. As Atlanta is her home and the home of Olympics, with Sports Illustrated DAILY and NBC TV, Coca-Cola made a once a day ad during the games. One printed ad and one TV ad. From McDonald's. In Thailand: an extra 20 baht on top of your meal. Available in several colours - this one is pink - each day a different colour is offered. Each colour seems to have a theme - this one is "volley". The glass is embossed on the other side with "2010 FIfa World Cup South Africa", and the volley symbol, as shown on the packaging.

PET body aluminum top cans are first presented without notice or success in 2005. You'll find it hard to get any correct info on it over the web. No big or noticeable brand use PET cans. But they are amazing good looking and feeling. The www.jah.ind.br/ launched without publicity. There are 4 flavors: Tahiti Lemon, Lemon Ice, Scicilian Lemon and Pink Lemonade. I tasted Thaiti (great) and Pink (exactly like US ones - the first in Brazil) All of them are Zero and vitaminated with C, B3, B5, B6 and B9.

This 6-pack was forbidden some years ago due to the danger off small children, animals, birds and fishes. I have no idea why they are using this in 2010.

Agora, essa empresa de Lindoia está lançando sem alarde ou publicidade 4 tipos de refrigerantes de limão, todos vitaminados e ZERO: Limão Tahiti, Limão Siciliano, Limão Ice e Pink Lemonade. Tomei o Tahiti e é muito bom e azedinho e o Pink Lemonade é exatamente igual aos americanos. Bem diferente do que os brasileiros estão acostumados e muito saboroso. É o primeiro PL no Brasil.

Happy Birthday Fanta - 50 Years

One of the toughest task we face is to accurately date events in our history.  We are often asked to determine when a flavor or slogan or brand was introduced.  Today is one of those days.

We mark June 1st as the date that Fanta was introduced to the US market and even blogged about it a few years ago.  It is a little tougher than that.  The product Fanta Orange was test marketed in several cities (Baltimore, Boston, Chicago) during the fall of 1958 and was later tested in Spokane.  Based on those successful test, the brand was introduced by Coca-Cola owned bottlers during 1959.

The reason we choose June 1, 1960 as the official date is that on that day, Fred Dixon, President of the newly formed Fanta Beverage Company sent a notice to all Bottlers of Coca-Cola announcing the "immediate availability of a line of soft drinks under the trademark, Fanta."  A week later the first contract was signed with the Savannah Coca-Cola Bottling Company and the brand was set.

Obs Roitberg: This date has nothing to do with the creation of the original "Fantastic"(Fanta) soda by the arianized Coca-Cola in nazi Germany in 1943 with leftoffs of various fruits as the Coca-Cola syrup from US finished due to US entering WW2.

Uma das tarefas mais difíceis que temos é datar com precisão os eventos de nossa história. Sempre nos pedem para determinar quando um sabor ou slogan ou marca foi introduzido. Hoje é um destes dias.

Marcamos primeiro de junho como a data em que a Fanta foi introduzida no mercado americano. Mas é mais complicado que isso. O produto Fanta Laranja teve um teste de mercado em várias cidades (Baltimore, Boston, Chicago) durante o outono de 1958 e depois foi testado em Spokane. Baseado no sucesso dos testes, a marca foi introduzida pelos engarrafadores de Coca-Cola durante 1959.

O motivo de escolhermos primeiro de junho de 1960 como data oficial é porque Fred Dixon, presidente da recém formada Fanta Beverage Company enviou um comunicado aos engarrafadores anunciando "a imediata disponibilidade de uma linha de refrigerantes sob a marca Fanta." Uma semana depois o primeiro contrato foi assinado com a Savannah Coca-Cola Botling Company e a marca estava colocada.
